The beginning of this year has once again begun with what the secular media has called a disaster of “biblical proportions” when referring to the earthquake and aftershocks in Haiti. The same term was used to define the Southeast Asian Tsunami in 2004, and once again by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. However, based on the number of deaths claimed by the tsunami in 2004 estimated at 230,000 and the number attributed to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 at 1836, the total cumulatively, at 231,836 doesn’t come close to estimates of the Haitian earthquake early this year. The population of the city of Port au Prince is indicated as roughly ten million and estimates of dead and injured have been estimated from a minimal 100,000 and as high as three million. Many authorities have suggested that this disaster could have the highest devastation mankind has seen in the last 500 years…or here again, of “biblical proportions!” “What is it going to take to get our attention?” Our only hope is found in, 2 Chronicles, 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Haiti has had its share of natural disasters in which the island was devastated by hurricanes during the 2008 hurricane season. Due to the poor economy of the country, many areas had not recovered from the hurricanes. The storms also destroyed over 70% of Haiti’s crops resulting in the deaths of hundreds of children due to malnutrition in the ensuing months after the storms.
Hearts With Hands is in the process of sending much needed medical supplies to Haiti and has a working agreement with Mission Haiti and the Saintard Mission Hospital located in Saint Ard, Haiti which is about two hours north of Port au Prince, Haiti. Our ships are sailing to Port Saint Marc and the cargo will be transported via truck.
Please keep the organization and all affiliated with Hearts With Hands bathed in prayer…this is most important! We continue to receive large donations of medical equipment and supplies and volunteers are continually needed at the warehouse and the offices. We also need funds to ship these supplies to our neighbors, the Haitian victims. Please make a donation or call today to see how you can help. Don't forget to check out the link to Sister Phyllis Newby, she is quite a soldier of the Lord!
